How to use Smart Calibration on a Samsung TV with the SmartThings app

The Smart Calibration process shown on a Samsung TV and Galaxy phone

Smart Calibration is an automatic picture calibration solution that allows you to calibrate Samsung display products at the touch of a button on your phone. With Smart Calibration, you can fine-tune the picture quality of the movie screen (Movie Mode) to the quality intended by the video creator to optimize your movie viewing experience.

Note: Your TV and phone must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

The Smart Calibration feature automatically adjusts your Samsung TV's picture settings to be closer to the quality intended by the video creator when watching movies.

After Calibration, the existing picture mode is changed to Movie (Calibrated).

Compatible Devices

  • Smartphone compatibility:

-Galaxy phone models released after January 2019, including the S, Note, Fold and Z Flip models.

-iPhone products released after January 2019 that support the Face ID Function.

 

  • TV/monitor compatibility:

-Basic and Profession Mode supported

[2022] TV: Neo QLED 8K, Neo QLED4K QN90B and higher

[2023] TV: Neo QLED 8K, Neo QLED 4K QN90C and higher

    Monitor: S90PC

 

-Basic Mode supported

[2022] TV: S95B, Q60B and higher, LS01B, LS02B, and LS03B Monitor: Smart Monitor M70B and higher, Gaming Monitor G65NB and higher

[2023] TV: S9*C, Q60C and higher, and LS03C Monitor: Smart Monitor M70C and higher, Gaming

    Monitor G95SC, and G97NC

1 Using your TV's remote control, navigate to Settings, and then select All Settings.

2 Select Picture, and then select Expert Settings.

3 Select Smart Calibration.

To use Smart Calibration, you'll need to connect your TV to the SmartThings app on your phone.

4 Navigate to and open the Camera app on your phone, and then scan the QR code displayed on your TV.

6 Tap Add now.

If the TV is already registered to the SmartThings app, you can skip the registration process.

The SmartThings app will automatically launch and initiate the registration process.

Follow any on-screen instructions if necessary.

If you see the message 'Success!' on the screen, tap Done.

You'll see a confirmation notification in the top right corner of your TV.

You can now control the TV using SmartThings on your device.

7 In the SmartThings app, swipe to and tap Smart Calibration, and then tap Start Calibration.

You may be prompted to allow SmartThings to use the camera.

8 Depending on your TV model, it may support only Basic Mode or both Basic and Professional Modes.

The models that support Professional Mode will display two options.

Basic Mode (15 - 30 seconds):

A simple calibration for white balance and menu optimization.

Professional Mode (5 - 8 minutes):

A thorough calibration for 20-point white balance, grayscale linearity, gamma, and chromaticity.

9 Next, place your device within 1 - 3 centimeters in front of the TV and look through the camera's viewfinder.

Make sure the view finder is positioned in front of the rectangular object displayed on the TV.

If you are using Professional Mode, a tripod is required.

A dark room is also recommended for a more accurate picture calibration.

10 Then, tap Start on your device.

Remember to keep your device steady during the calibration process for the best results.

If you are using Basic Mode, the calibration process will take about 30 seconds to complete.

If you are using Professional Mode, it will take about 5-8 minutes.

11 Once the calibration is complete, you can compare the quality difference between the calibrated and original settings.

12 Select the option that suits your preferences, and then tap Done.

You've successfully completed the Smart Calibration process on your Samsung TV.

1 If you'd like to change the picture settings after running Smart Calibration, first navigate to Settings, and then select All Settings.

2 Select Picture, and then select a different Picture mode option, such as Standard.

If you'd like to return your TV to its original picture settings before you ran Smart Calibration, you can reset the picture settings.

1 Select Expert Settings.
